Try TuneIn Radio for awesome access to worldwide radio stations. Not sure i’d use this on a 3G network but from wireless access when travelling it’s pretty amazing

This isn’t strictly a travel app, but if you are creative or have kids in tow, it’s simply awesome iPhone painting.

Evernote is much more than an amazing iPhone app. To understand it’s core benefits as they relate to travel, you need the desktop app too. Being able to plan from the desktop and then have all that planning in your pocket, without having to do anything, shows the future of mobile travel (think Google).

I really got into Pano on my last trip to Egypt. Hard work to align the images in the bright glare of the day, but amazing results where you want something a bit different (oh, and I carry a Nikon D300 for my main travel photography and this app still has it’s place.

I love our (WorldNomads.com) travel language guides. They might not be comprehensive but they were designed to teach you the basics with the view that everyone can learn a handful of phrases and these can take you a surprisingly long way with the locals. The range now includes 23 languages including the really off-the-beaten-track ones like Swahili, Arabic, Lao, or Nepali. Enjoy!

Xe.com have this handy little iPhone app that you can still use offline as you travel and update when you get to a wi-fi spot. I actually used this to help an Indian tourist change some USD at the pyramids recently to save him from having to head off to find an ATM. Useful.
